Who can report to CIRAS?

Anyone who works on or near the line can report their safety concern to CIRAS. We welcome reports from trackworkers, drivers, station cleaning staff, signallers, construction staff: basically anyone who works on or around the network.

This is a relatively new development in the way we work: when CIRAS was first set-up we only processed reports from ‘safety critical staff’. However, we realised that staff not defined as safety critical had a lot of valuable information to offer us, and were some of those workers most vulnerable to accidents (particularly trackside staff). We now encourage anyone who works on the network to report to us.

Members of the public with a concern about operational safety should contact: Network Rail - 08457 114141 or, if the matter is urgent, the British Transport Police - 0800 405040.
