In this edition we: introduce our reporting team; announce some new resources for members; and give details of our next regional events.
Introducing the CIRAS reporting team
September saw our reporting team strengthened with the return of Rachael Addison, who previously spent her student placement with us before graduating this summer. Rachael joins fellow Reporting Analyst and psychology graduate Nik Vucetic, who joined in May. They are led by Reporting and Assurance Manager Daniela Allison, also a trained psychologist. Daniela’s team lies at the very heart of CIRAS. They are the ones who listen to our reporters’ concerns and liaise with our members to obtain responses. They also provide valuable insight into the health and safety themes reported to us via data requests and regular reporting statistics.
Promoting CIRAS is now easier with our new guide and tools
We’ve published a new guide ‘How to promote CIRAS to your staff’. It provides guidance on the tools and resources available to our members to help them ensure staff know about CIRAS, plus some useful examples of what other members are doing. We’ve created a new ‘CIRAS overview’ presentation which can be used by reps to familiarise themselves with CIRAS, and to promote the service to their colleagues. And we have published a poster highlighting that staff can report about any company - not just their employer. Members can access these new resources by logging in to our members’ portal.
New events announced - seasonal safety on the agenda
We’re running our next series of rep induction and shared learning events across the UK in November. The first hour is dedicated to new CIRAS reps and any existing reps who would like a refresher, covering some basics about CIRAS, the role of the rep and the support we offer. This is immediately followed by a new shared learning event entitled ‘Staying safe throughout the seasons’, bringing members together to share their learning and experiences on planning and managing seasonal safety issues. CIRAS reps can sign up for either or both events – places are limited so book your space here.
BTP joins CIRAS
We’re delighted to announce that British Transport Police (BTP) have become members of CIRAS. The service was rolled out to BTP staff in August. Nisa Carey, Head of BTP’s Safety & Occupational Health Service, said:
“BTP has signed up to CIRAS to provide our officers and staff with an additional way of reporting health and safety concerns in confidence. This complements the health and safety processes we already have in place within the Force. Because it is independent, CIRAS provides us with valuable intelligence about matters which might otherwise go unreported, providing us with a ‘safety net’ to capture issues that need to be addressed.”
