A reporter is concerned by the presence of rubbish in a large, overflowing skip positioned on Network Rail land next to Taunton station.
The skip has been there for over a year and is approximately 50 feet from the running line. Wooden pallets are littering the surrounding area, posing an obvious fire hazard. The site has also become a target for fly-tippers who are leaving electrical appliances like washing machines there.

Could Network Rail clear the skip and its rubbish?
The Section Manager from Taunton Network Rail maintenance had arranged for two more skips to be placed at the site and for all the rubbish to be cleared. All skips were removed from the site on 18 August 2011.
Could Network Rail remove the pallets and appliances?
The pallets and appliances were removed on 18 August 2011 by the Network Rail Maintenance Staff from Taunton depot.
Could Network Rail tidy and secure the area to prevent a reoccurrence?
The site is within a secure area within the Network Rail boundary and can only be accessed by Network Rail staff.
