50738 Incorrect personal protective equipment

July 2012 in Train Operations

tagged Equipment South East

A reporter is concerned that agency staff working at Paddington station have not been issued with the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The boots worn by agency staff do not have the required steel toe caps.

According to the reporter, boots without steel toe caps will not provide the required level of protection and could lead to unnecessary foot injuries.

Could Pro-Active Recruitment:

  • Explain why staff are not being issued boots with steel toe caps?
  • Provide the correct boots if required?

Response from Pro-Active Recruitment

Pro-Active Recruitment thanks the reporter for bringing this issue to our attention. As a result of this report we have contacted First Great Western regarding the PPE requirements of staff at Paddington station. First Great Western have confirmed to us that there is a requirement for staff working at Paddington station to be wearing boots fitted with steel toe caps. These boots have now been issued and regular checks have been put in place to ensure staff are wearing the boots.
