Introduction

CIRAS is the confidential incident reporting system for the rail industry. Anyone who works on or near the line can contact us with a safety concern.

The system is completely confidential - whilst we need to take your contact details to process your report, we never pass on any personal information to rail companies. Since its inception in 1996, CIRAS has never compromised on confidentiality.

CIRAS complements existing company reporting channels, it does not replace them: most companies have their own internal reporting systems, and we encourage staff to use these. But if, for whatever reason, you would rather report your concern to us, we will raise it with your employer on your behalf and in complete confidence. Because we’re confidential, we are told about concerns which might not be reported in any other way. We analyse reports in order to pinpoint trends, helping companies improve their safety procedures for the benefit of everyone who works in the industry.
