How does it work?

CIRAS takes reports from rail staff, and sends them on to rail companies for their response, making companies directly answerable for their policies and actions.

CIRAS is a confidential system, we always protect reporters’ identities: in over ten years of operation there has never been a breach of confidence. CIRAS is confidential not anonymous: anonymous reports are not accepted by CIRAS because the information they contain cannot be properly checked. Reporters are asked for their name and contact details so that we can write back to them with the company’s response. This also allows CIRAS to collect valuable feedback from reporter on the handling of their concern, both by CIRAS and the company, or companies, involved.

Many of the reports and responses we receive are published in The Reporter, our bi-monthly newsletter; download a copy here.
