We make it heard
When you raise a health, safety or wellbeing concern through CIRAS, we send a report to the right people at the relevant company.
Companies then investigate, take appropriate action, and respond. We'll protect your identity and share their response with you, so you know what’s happened.
We protect your identity
Our reporting service is confidential, not anonymous.
That means we will ask for your contact details, but protect your identity.
We need to stay in touch to fully understand the concern, share the company’s response, and give you the opportunity to ask further questions.

Frequently asked questions
-
Why not use internal reporting channels?
CIRAS complements internal systems, bringing concerns that companies might miss to the surface. We will listen to your concerns involving any company in the transport industry – not just your employer - whether you’ve reported your concern internally before or never raised it through any channel.
Sometimes, you might prefer someone impartial to listen, such as if a concern’s affecting your ability to fulfil your role, or there’s a wider culture issue impacting safety.
-
How do we protect your identity?
As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, we have maintained the confidentiality of those we have listened to since we were established in 1996.
Staying confidential goes beyond not using your name. We ensure absolutely nothing could identify you or a colleague. For example, we will only mention a location if enough staff work there so that you could not be identified.
-
Who do you send a report about my concern to?
We send your report to the relevant company, and never in a way that identifies you.
The company will review your concern, investigate, take appropriate action and respond to CIRAS. We share the company's response with you, so that you know you’ve been heard.
-
What if the issue isn’t resolved?
The company's response will be shared with you. If you still have concerns, you will be able to give feedback.
We’ll facilitate a confidential exchange between you and the company to ensure that no opportunity to reduce risk has been missed.
-
Will my employer find out I contacted CIRAS?
If you raise a concern, we will ensure the report cannot identify you. They will know about your concern, but not who raised it.
