Parked vehicles cleared and new fencing installed.

Parked vehicles on the only access road to Crewe’s Basford Hall yard are causing congestion that could delay or prevent emergency services from reaching the yard, said a reporter.
Network Rail and contractors’ vehicles park on this road and the walking routes instead of in the designated parking areas. The drivers are typically off site, so can’t remove vehicles quickly. Staff sometimes have to walk around vehicles into the road, potentially causing an accident.
Network Rail watched the access road at various times of day after receiving the report. It will brief contractors on the designated parking areas prior to entering the yard, during induction. It’s considering adding double yellow lines along it as well as signs indicating ‘no parking’ zones.
Network Rail will regularly inspect the access road to ensure compliance with new parking regulations, addressing any violations promptly.
Freightliner has started work to lower the kerbs to the east of the vehicle maintenance facility and boundary fence to create additional parking spaces, which will alleviate the congestion in this area.
Previously parked vehicles and plant for the Crewe Hub project have since moved away, and new fencing prevents parking.
The Basford Hall improvement programme has repaired damaged kerbs and tarmac, and has repainted walking routes.
